Did you know we have a pub?
Hello … how the devil are you?
The Ancrum Cross Keys sits at the centre of not just the village but also village life. From its position overlooking the green, its sandstone frontage has commanded the attention of both locals and passers-by for nearly two centuries.
The listed Front Bar, with its 1906 wooden gantry, offers succour and refreshment to thirsty souls every night of the week, whilst a new Side Bar is currently under construction – it will eventually offer similar respite to those who tend towards the daytime rather than the night.
But we humans also need to be fed as well as watered. A recent renovation has seen the opening of a spectacular new restaurant. Characterised by its deep Hague blue colour, its reclaimed furniture and its ironwork cellar rails, it provides the perfect space to embark on a unique gastronomic journey.
On sunnier days, the garden becomes the place to head for. One of the biggest in the Borders, it enjoys full sunshine all day long and offers access, via Simon’s Steps, to the light-dappled haven that is the Ale Water’s edge – a true escape from the madness of the 21st Century.
